The Project
The fashion industry is an important part of Swedish industry, which employs around 47,000 employees. The Swedish government has stated that Sustainable Fashion will become a clear symbol for Sweden. Since generative AI has been made available to the masses, the technology has revolutionized a variety of application areas, including the fashion industry. But the application of generative AI not only brings desirable effects, it also benefits the fast fashion (Temu, Shein) and moves the industry in a direction from the Agenda 2030 goals of higher consumption levels.
With this project, we want to address the cornerstone of the fashion industry, the part that creates trends, namely high-fashion and specifically the early design phase that is characterized by uniqueness and creativity. The goal is to use generative AI, specifically generative image models, to promote human creativity and innovation. The project aims to develop a tool for the early design phase without compromising intellectual property rights, but instead capturing a designer’s unique expression and helping them create unique garments and patterns.
The goal is to be able to demonstrate and thereby inspire the industry to increase the use of AI tools in the design process and in this way work more sustainably and long-term with fashion. The project consists of two actors, Petra Fagerström AB, who represent high-fashion and are the needs owner, and Substorm AB, AI specialists, with experience in developing scalable AI solutions, including area-specific generative AI models.
